Terry Pratchett's unfinished works flattened by steamroller

These Animated Vintage Textbooks Would Make School Feel Like an Acid Trip By Andrew Liszewski on 11 Aug 2017 at 10:00AM Whoa man. Totally far out

A hard drive with the unfinished works of world-famous British novelist Terry Pratchett has been crushed by a steamroller.

It's a pair of rites we see often at the passing of great authors: first, the tributes from those who loved their books; then, the good-faith effort to find their unfinished works and shepherd them to the bookshelves they never would have found otherwise.

Following his death, fellow writer Neil Gaiman had said that Pratchett had wanted to put his incomplete work, along with his computers, "in the middle over a road and for a steamroller to steamroll over them all", The Times had reported in August 2015.

Half an hour later, he uploaded a photo of the smashed-up hard drive, quipping: "There goes the browsing history". As for the prolific Discworld author's unfinished works - well, those are just crushed.

The destroyed hard drive will be on display at the Salisbury Museum starting in September as part of an exhibition dedicated to Pratchett.

Pratchett had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2007 and it's though he did not want his unfinished tales to be released after his death.

Following the diagnoses, he became an advocate for assisted dying, presenting the 2011 BBC documentary Terry Pratchett: Choosing to Die to much controversy.

The prolific writer - best known for his long-running satirical fantasy series Discworld - died in 2015, aged 66.

The exhibition's curator, Richard Henry, said the steamroller did not manage to crush the hard drive completely - despite weighing more than six tonnes.
