USA threatens ISIS convoy that agreed to leave Lebanon under Hezbollah deal

In Syria, under separate attacks from a US -led coalition and from the Russian-backed Syrian army, it is falling back on its strongholds along the Euphrates valley east of Raqqa, the de facto capital of the caliphate it declared in 2014.

In response to an inquiry from The Jerusalem Post, the US-led coalition condemned the "agreement between Lebanese Hezbollah and ISIS" that has allowed hundreds of ISIS fighters and families to be bused through Syrian regime controlled regions to an area near Iraq.

Iraq's Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi criticised the ceasefire deals that saw hundreds of Islamic State (IS) group militants evacuated from an enclave on the Lebanese-Syrian border.

Coalition forces attacked a bridge and a road in Isis-held territory, hitting vehicles used by Isis that were not part of the convoy.

The Syrian army and the Lebanese Hezbollah group, which has been fighting alongside President Bashar Assad's forces in Syria since 2013, have been waging their own separate but simultaneous offensive to pressure the Islamic State on the Syrian side of the border.

Another U.S. official said the U.S. believed the relocated ISIS fighters meant to cross into Iraq, but that the convoy has not yet crossed the border.

But anger over the transfer deal prompted the US-led coalition to launch airstrikes on Wednesday to block the convoy.

It ended ISIS's presence on the Lebanese border with Syria where the military had been battling ISIS jihadis for years.

Save the Children on August 28 also said a bombing campaign has increased the "nightmares" for young people in the self-declared IS capital, which is under siege by US -backed Syrian Arab and Kurdish fighters.

ISIS is another acronym for the Islamic State group.

But Lebanon's move to halt the fight after IS was squeezed into a small sliver on the border and then let the militants flee has further alarmed Washington.

"Bringing those forces from Lebanon to eastern Syria and the Iraqi border is suspicious".

The US-led worldwide coalition has backed Kurdish and Iraqi forces. Coalition forces have told Ankara to tell its rebel allies that firing on USA coalition forces "is not acceptable", Dillon said. The U.S. officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to talk to reporters.

The Lebanese government has defended the deal, in which the militants revealed the location of the remains of nine Lebanese soldiers who were captured in 2014, according to the Associated Press.

"I had two choices: either I continue the battle and not know the soldiers' fate, or I submit to the situation and find out".

Syrian Al-Ikhbariya TV said the Syrian government approved the transfer of militants to Boukamal to facilitate the talks over the fate of the soldiers. Remains of several people have been uncovered in the border area, and DNA tests are underway to determine whether they belong to the missing soldiers.
