4 bodies spotted after Rohingya boat capsizes in Naf

44 Rohingya protestors nabbed over illegal rally

Violence erupted in Myanmar's Rakhine State on August 25 when the country's security forces launched an operation against Rohingya Muslim community.

An estimated 6,000 more Rohingya are massed on the border, having fled their villages in Myanmar saying they were set on fire by police, troops and Buddhist mobs. As of Thursday, less than a week after the clashes erupted, the confirmed casualties totaled at least 110, including dozens of militants, 12 security officials and an unknown number of civilians. I would like to express all my closeness to them, and let us all ask the Lord to save them and to inspire men and women of goodwill to help them, so that they may have their full rights. They are also subject to frequent sectarian attacks by Buddhist extremist groups such as Ma Ba Tha, the "committee to protect race and religion".

"I am concerned that these events will derail efforts to address the root causes of the systematic discrimination and recurrent violence in Rakhine State", said the Special Rapporteur. "Bangladeshi Hindus are helping them", he said. There have been numerous eyewitness accounts of summary executions, rapes, and arson attacks by security forces against the Muslims since the crackdown began. On Wednesday, the bodies of two Rohingya women and two children washed up in Bangladesh after their rickety boat capsized. "One of the boats was carrying at least 22 Rohingyas". Rohingya are muslim minority claiming to be the descendants of Arab traders following the Sufi-infested variation of Sunni Islam. "We condemn ARSA's attacks, but the Burmese military's wholly disproportionate assault on Rohingya civilians is a continuation of its persecution of the Rohingyas and may amount to further crimes against humanity, war crimes and ethnic cleansing".

Muslim-majority Malaysia is home to almost 60,000 refugees and asylum-seekers of the Rohingya minority, who suffer persecution in mostly Buddhist Myanmar.

The Rohingya, a Muslim minority in the predominantly Buddhist Myanmar, are considered some of the most persecuted people in the world. He called on the global community and rights groups to apply pressure on the Myanmar government.

US Ambassador Nikki Haley chastised the security forces in a statement. Human rights workers fear the toll is much higher.

United Nations special rapporteur Yanghee Lee expressed alarm Thursday about a worsening cycle of violence in the area that she said was "of grave concern" and "must be broken urgently".

The Myanmar Government said it was conducting a justified military response to a terrorist threat but to many observers, the "clearance operation" has all the hallmarks of ethnic cleansing, if not genocide.
