Statistics Canada says last month's increase of 22,200 jobs also helped nudge the unemployment rate down from 6.3 per cent in July to a nine-year low of 6.2.

August recorded 9,800 people employed in the field, the same number first recorded in October 2016.

The unemployment rate did not change in Windsor last month from July according to Statistics Canada.

But in August, the number of people looking for work in New Brunswick rose to 29,700 people. August figures out today show the B.C. rate sitting at 5.1 percent, down two-tenths of a point from the 5.3 percent in July. Nationally, unemployment sat at 6.2 per cent, with an increase in part-time workers and a decrease in full-time work. The full-time job losses were so large they erased three straight months of gains in that category that looked to be turning the province's economy around.

Canada's unemployment rate has dropped to its lowest level in nine years.

While not a particularly strong result by itself, today's report brings the total number of new jobs created over the previous year to a "staggering" 374,000, The Conference Board of Canada said in a statement.

Alberta also saw a steady rate of employment.

"It is your government's hope that these job fairs will bring more attention to the exciting prospects here in the province, and will give potential employees a platform on which to further their careers".
