Additional CT National Guardsmen heading to help with Hurricane Irma relief efforts

Iowa Guard sending helicopters, soldiers to help Hurricane Irma victims in Florida

Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., has issued an order that temporarily waives the global fuel tax agreement and worldwide registration plan for any commercial vehicles traveling through the state.

At this time, governors are best postured to determine the needs of their residents and to establish response priorities, and are now using Army National Guard members to help meet those needs, according to the statement. The Coast Guard is surveying the many ports and lanes near Puerto Rico that will be key for resupply of basic commodities and for resupplying fuel to airports and shipping ports in Florida and elsewhere. "This is an American effort happening and just as Vermont was assisted during Hurricane Irene, we are able and more than willing to help our neighbors in Texas".

Advance elements of the National Guard will leave the state as early as today, said Trovato.

As many as 3,500 Ohio National Guard soldiers will be sent to Florida to help the state with the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, the Ohio National Guard's adjutant general told The Associated Press on Saturday. "Our company motto is 'You call, we haul, ' so we're prepared and ready, and we're excited to have this mission".

The team from the 106th will be transported south aboard two C-17 aircraft from the New York Air National Guard's 105th Airlift Wing based at Stewart Airport in the Town of Newburgh.

Several soldiers who went Thursday just recently got back from from helping Texas after Hurricane Harvey. The deployment was one component of the National Guard response to Hurricane Irma's impact on that island and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

These two missions bring the total number of Connecticut Guardsmen supporting hurricane relief efforts to 31.

The 105th Airlift Wing, which is based at Stewart Air National Base outside Newburgh, New York, committed 12 airmen to the Caribbean mission.
