In book, Clinton admits mistakes, casts blame for 2016 loss

Names and faces

In her first television interview since losing the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton reflected on her loss, placing blame on external actors like Russian Federation, while acknowledging places where she could have improved her campaign.

"As an active politician, it's over", Clinton told Jane Pauley in a Sunday interview on CBS Sunday Morning.

In her CBS interview, Clinton admitted the memories of her loss are still "very painful". "I really struggled. I couldn't feel, I couldn't think, I was just gob-smacked, wiped out". She also calls her paid speeches to Wall Street banks bad "optics". "And doesn't it kind of haunt you, " she wanted to know.

Pauley then stopped Clinton to clarify, "What you're saying is millions of white people" and Clinton responded "millions of white people, yeah". "I take responsibility for all of them".

Clinton talked about the night and days after she lost.

"There were plenty of people hoping that I, too, would just disappear", Clinton writes.

"I am not done with politics because I literally believe that our country's future is at stake", Clinton said. I thought a lot of his appeals to voters were deplorable.

Ms Clinton said she believed Mr Trump had tapped into a "nostalgia" felt by his supporters.

And this is after eight years as senator from NY, 4 years as secretary of State of Barack Obama and eight years as First lady during the two mandates of her husband Bill Clinton.

"I felt a huge sense of abandonment, loss of feelings, of direction and of sadness", she entrusted to him and to heal she has wandered far into the woods, has stowed away in the cupboards, and "drank a good amount of Chardonnay". "It's part of the demonstration of the continuity of our government", Clinton said.

Addressing President Trump's debate tactic of looming into her personal space - "It was so discombobulating" - Clinton praised her own composure, but noted that failing to more boldly repudiate Trump did not serve her well.

"I relied on several tools, one of which was prayer, and I was lifted up and blessed by a lot of people who sent me prayers, sent me spiritual readings", Clinton said Thursday.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Clinton saved her most vehement invective for opponent Bernie Sanders, an Independent Senator from Vermont, whom she defeated in the 2016 Democratic Primary.
