UK's Monarch Airlines collapses after slump in pound's value

Monarch airline awaits package holiday licence decision

BRITISH consular staff have been despatched to Spanish airports to help assist passengers after the early morning collapse of United Kingdom operator Monarch Airlines.

Britain's Civil Aviation Authority tweeted that it was arranging to have 30 aircraft bring home the stranded passengers scattered from Turkey to Sweden back home, "at no cost to them".

All 300,000 future bookings have been cancelled, and those who are due to fly from the United Kingdom have been told not to go to the airport. You can also message the Guardian on WhatsApp by adding the contact +44 (0) 7867825056.

Monarch customers in the United Kingdom have been advised not to go to the airport as there will be no more Monarch flights operating.

With 13 days remaining and approximately 98,000 passengers still to bring back to the United Kingdom, the CAA is working around the clock, in conjunction with the United Kingdom government, to deliver the replacement flying programme following the administration of Monarch.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has said it will bring home more than 100,000 passengers now overseas after Monarch Airlines became the UK's largest ever airline to enter administration.

The CAA had been expected to announce today whether Monarch would be able to continue selling package holidays.

If you are due to depart from a United Kingdom airport with Monarch Airlines today or in the future, please do not travel to your United Kingdom airport as your flight will not be operating.

"We urge people affected by the company's collapse to check our dedicated website monarch.caa.co.uk for advice and information on flights back to the UK".

The CAA said on Twitter: "Some disruption is inevitable in these extraordinary circumstances; please bear with us as we do our very best to help".

The British authorities will allocate three airplanes to be sent to thirty airports in order to face this unprecedented situation without imposing any additional costs on passengers.

Meanwhile, unfortunately anyone who has booked a flight out of the United Kingdom with Monarch won't be getting it replaced; if that's you, you shouldn't go to the airport.

- If your return flight was due to leave after 15 October and you are not Atol-protected, unfortunately, you must make alternative travel arrangements. Together with the CAA, we will work around the clock to ensure Monarch passengers get the support they need.
