JK attack ends, hunt on for 7 terrorists

Jaish-e-Mohammad fidayeen storm BSF camp near Srinagar Airport; 2 attackers killed

Sources say that the terrorists of the Jaish-e-Mohammad had infiltrated through the Poonch sector in August.

After the attack on Tuesday, the police said they were looking for seven more militants from the same group.

Sharma after participating in the wreath-laying ceremony for BSF assistant sub-inspector BK Yadav in humhama on Wednesday said, "The fidayeen are determined".

Considering the vastness of the BSF camp in Srinagar, senior officers made a decision to launch an operation that included men from the BSF, the CRPF and the J&K Police. Security forces in large numbers sealed off entire Humhama and road leading to Airport and launched an operation against the militants.

BSF officials said that some of the terrorists are holed up inside the building campus of the 182nd Battalion camp, according to the Times of India.

Heavily armed militants stormed an Indian Border Security Force (BSF) camp early Tuesday in disputed Jammu and Kashmir's capital.

Besides being a highly guarded security zone because of the location of the strategic airport, many top former bureaucrats, police officials and politicians have residences in the area.

Srinagar International Airport is a defense airport directly controlled by the Indian Air force.

Only last week, militants bearing allegiance to LeT killed Muhammad Ramzaan, a BSF constable, inside his house in Hajin, Bandipore.

The base in which the gun battle took place shares a common compound wall with the airport.

He told reporters the Islamist group was a threat "because they believe in surprise suicide attacks".

Sources said the camp was targeted to inflict high casualties on security forces as it is situated in a high-security area and close to the airport. "It was a good operation that they have conducted", he said. During the exchange of fire four security personnel were wounded.

Khan added, "There has to be different strategies to neutralise the terrorists as they usually come up as fidayeen attackers".
