Bale out of Wales qualififers

The time is right for the great Irish Bale out

Chris Coleman praised Wales for taking care of business in Tbilisi after a 1-0 win over Georgia boosted their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup.

Tom Lawrence's superb first worldwide goal gave Wales a crucial 1-0 away win over Georgia as their bid to qualify for the World Cup was boosted despite the absence of injured talisman Gareth Bale.

The Wales global suffered the injury in the 3-1 UEFA Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund towards the end of September and was subsequently left out of last weekend's 2-0 La Liga win over Espanyol.

"This campaign we haven't always had Bale, Aaron Ramsey or Joe Allen", explained Coleman on Wednesday.

"I've seen a lot of Ben in this campaign and he reminds me of what Gareth was like when he was younger", Edwards said. "It's not woe is me".

The stakes could not be higher for Wales.

But Coleman only remembers a "horrible" experience and says there is no comparison between the team he played in and the one he now manages.

"We weren't a team at that time, this is a team - and we're in with a great shout".

"Any manager will tell you that you try to stay away from all that".

"The pressure is great because I've been used to there being nothing now, three games in and we're out of it".

"We'll be up against it, but these are the games you want to be involved in". That's not the case now.

"We wanted to finish with two wins".

"They won't be afraid, they'll come to us and expect to get a result".

However, before they do that the Welsh still need to beat both Ireland and Georgia, to secure their second place spot, which could be tricky without Gareth Bale.

There is clearly no juice in that, and it might be a bit harder than the layers think, especially with key attacking players Robbie Brady and James McClean both suspended. "If you are on a yellow and need to take another, so be it". We're still strong enough to go to other countries and get points.

"A point maybe OK, but we'll go for three points. that's the way it's set up".

It promises to be a tricky assignment.

Wales are now the lowest ranked second placed team, which would see them eliminated from the World Cup without playing a play-off. I remember the first game in Dublin when they weren't very respectful to our boys and to our supporters, and this squad won't have forgotten that.

That said, the main aim for Ireland is to avoid any slip-ups at the Aviva, therefore ensuring they go to Cardiff knowing it's all to play for against a team missing their most influential player.

Wales have seven players on yellow cards and another booking would rule them out of the Republic's visit to Cardiff on Monday night.

"They're not afraid of anybody. We'll do the best we can so that his Spanish improves and after all else, that he loses his fear of using it in everyday situations".
