American comedian Ralphie May dies aged 45

He had performed Thursday night at Harrah's in Vegas.

Comedian Ralphie May died after suffering cardiac arrest on Friday in Las Vegas, his manager and publicist confirmed to Variety.

The cause of death has not been reported.

May first found fame in the early 2000s when he came second on Last Comic Standing, and had forged a successful career in the business. He's starred in several specials since on Comedy Central and Netflix, including "Girth of a Nation", "Prime Cut" and "Too Big to Ignore".

Dane Cook was one of the first to express his grief, tweeting, "Whoa. man. this sucks. Condolences to his family and fans".

"I'm at a loss for words to hear about the passing of comedian Ralfie May", he tweeted.

May is survived by by his estranged wife, Lahna Turner, and their daughter April June and son August James. "He was a friend to many and a father of 2 attractive children".

They also claimed the comic was a drug taker who would abuse drugs in front of the couple's two children.
