Ezekiel Elliott loses in appeals court; clearing way for suspension

Not Released

A federal appeals court has reportedly overturned a district court's decision in the Ezekiel Elliott case today, meaning the 22-year old stud running back's six-game suspension has been reinstated. Elliott could still avoid the suspension for now if the NFLPA files for a temporary restraining order in the Southern District of NY and the court grants their request.

The judges voted 2-1 to grant the NFL's emergency request and ordered the U.S. Eastern District Court in Sherman to dismiss Elliott's case. League-appointed arbitrator Harold Henderson rejected the NFL Players Association's appeal on Elliott's behalf and upheld the suspension imposed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell under the sport's personal conduct policy.

The Court of Appeals ruled against the injuction Thursday, overruling the district court's decision.

However, the star running back is bound to appeal or file a motion for a new injunction, allowing him to play while the suspension is argued in court. Authorities in Columbus, Ohio, did not charge Elliott with a crime. This is the same court that ultimately ruled in the NFL's favor against Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in the deflate gate scandal.

Dallas Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott stands on the sideline in the first half of a preseason NFL football game against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, in Arlington, Texas.

Elliott, the league's leading rusher last season as a rookie, has totaled 393 rushing yards in five games this season.
