Malayalam filmmaker IV Sasi dies at 69 in Chennai

IV Sasi was known as the director who has directed more than 150 movies in his career span.

I. V. Sasi had problems in breathing and passed away around 11.15 am on his way to the Surya hospital in Chennai.

He has directed Hindi and Tamil movies too. Actor Mohanlal has worked with director IV Sasi in numerous films and he is credited with introducing superstar Mammootty to the cinema with his film Thrishna.

The versatile renowned director I.V. Sasi has made his debut as a director in 1975 ULsavam Malayalam movie that hits the Cinema screens successfully.

He also helmed several critically acclaimed films like Alkoottathil Thaniye, Kanamarayathu, Aksharangal andVadakaykkoru Hrudayam. In his forty year career, this director's films had a special place owing to his unconventional style and his unique approach to the 70s, 80s and 90s, this director changed the face of Malayalm cinema with his sheer brilliance.

Sasis long-term friend and Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan tweeted: "My friend for 45 years I V Sasi is no more". He found his place in the hearts of Malayalees through his movies like "Aroodam", which won a National Award for best feature film on national integration. The industry and I mourn a great technician.

The director also pioneered many technological innovations, taking regional cinema into many new horizons.

Born in 1948, he married yesteryear actress Seema whom he met on the sets of his movie "Avalude Raavukkal". "My support & love to my sister Seema Sasi & family", Kamal Hassan wrote.

RIP, IV Sasi. His works stand testimony to his dedication to the field and he will always be missed by the Indian film fraternity. It is not just in Malayalam cinema that IV Sasi made a mark. "So many personal memories!"
