NIA nabs Hizbul chief's son in 2011 terror funding case few hours after interlocutor's appointment

Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin's son, Syed Shahid Yosuf, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency on Tuesday in connection with the 2011 terror funding case.

"Yusuf was arrested today in Delhi after he was called for questioning at the NIA headquarters in an old case of funding registered in 2011", the IANS reported. The NIA had reopened its investigations in the matter despite the case being pending for trial in a city court.

Yusuf is a post graduate in Agriculture and, since 2013, has been working in the department of agriculture Jammu and Kashmir as village agriculture extension assistant at his village Soibough in Budgam district. Ghulam Mohammed Bhat, Mohammad Sidiq Ghanaian, Ghulam Jeelani Liloo and Farooq Ahmed Dagga are right now in Delhi's Tihar jail whereas the other two-Mohammad Maqbool Pandit and Aijaz Ahmed Bhat are absconding.

Besides heading terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen, he is also the chairman of United Jehad Council (UJC), a conglomerate of various terrorist outfits operating in the Kashmir Valley.

In a telestatement, Hashmi said the arrest of the son of Salahuddin won't deter the leadership from their "resolve for freedom movement".

According to NIA, the lawyer separatist had procured over Rs 4.50 crore from Pakistan through hawala channels within three years after 2008 for funding militant activities in the Kashmir Valley.

Shahid Yousuf has accepted the money through the Western Union by Aijaz based in Saudi Arabia. The money exchange between Aijaz and Yusuf took place in four instalments from 2011-14. Report says, that Syed Salahuddin has five sons and two daughters, all of his children are married.

The arrest of Salahuddin's son comes closely after the central government appointed a representative to initiate dialogue to find a solution to the problems in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
