Boy survives after jumping on auto from 30 ft, driver dead

The incident took place at around 4.20 pm on Saturday, while Marisa was driving her 2005 Ford Escape towards eastbound on Interstate 66.

The impact incapacitated the vehicle's driver, but a 23-year-old male, front-seat passenger was able to steer the vehicle off the interstate. She said that it was "amusing" that Harris passed on when a kid she could have encouraged purportedly attempted to take his own particular life. His identity has not been released.

According to Virginia State Police, Harris was pronounced dead at the scene.

Given her work with children, the circumstances of her death - after a suicide attempt by a 12-year-old - were not lost on the family.

Harris' family members told WRC she was a graduate student at Marymount University in Arlington, where she studied clinical counseling. Marisa was a caring, giving person who meant to devote her life to helping children in crisis.

Leigh Harris called it "ironic" that her daughter died the way she did.

Harris' father described her as outgoing and well-traveled.

She told the network that Harris had graduated summa cum laude from Towson University. According, to the authorities, she grabbed steering wheel of the SUV and managed to maneuver her vehicle off the I-66 stopping against a barrier on left shoulder of the concrete road.
