Kevin Spacey slammed for coming out in apology for alleged assault

U.S media reported Monday that the Netflix series House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey, will conclude after its sixth season, which is now in production.

Netflix is ending "House of Cards" after the upcoming sixth season.

Rumors of House of Cards coming to an end have been swirling around even before the shocking sexual allegations from Rapp were made public, which is to say it remains unclear if the show would have soldiered on had Rapp not gone public.

"I have loved and had romantic relationships with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man", Spacey stated. News that Spacey and director David Fincher were updating the project, an adaptation of a British series and Michael Dobbs novel of the same name, as a beltway drama for the USA sparked multiple bids from stateside programmers (including HBO) before finally going to Netflix with a straight-to-series order for two seasons at a price tag then estimated to be around $100 million.

Spacey was not at work on the set as previously scheduled, according to the statement. "This story has encouraged me to address other things about my life".

Rapp, who is now 46-years-old, told Buzzfeed News that Spacey invited him to his New York City apartment party back in 1986, when they were both working in Broadway shows. At the same time, he said, "I could never imagine [that] anyone else I know would do something like that to a 14-year-old boy".

Meanwhile, Kevin Spacey issued an apology for his behavior on Twitter last night, a response that was universally criticized from all angles. Rapp said that while he was sitting in a bedroom and watching TV after the party, an apparently drunken Spacey lifted him up, placed him on a bed and laid on top of him in an effort to seduce him.

In light of all of these sexual harassment and assault allegations, is there anything that you think networks and production companies will start doing, perhaps through background checks? The streaming giant also said it was "deeply troubled" by the allegations.

Kevin Spacey has been criticised for his response to sexual misconduct allegations by LGBTQ organisations and campaigners. That said, I take reports of such behaviour seriously and this is no exception. "Well, yeah, I should probably go home, '" Rapp told BuzzFeed.

In a statement on Twitter, Willimon sided with Rapp and said he "supported his courage".
