PM Narendra Modi Flags Off 'Run For Unity' On Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Birth Anniversary

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off a 1.5-kilometre run to commemorate the 142nd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of the founders of the Republic of India.

At Changlang, DC Wayong Khimhun paid tributes to the portrait of Sardar Patel and administered unity pledge to the participants.

Ahead of flagging off the marathon, "Run for Unity", Modi said, "Sardar Patel not just saved India from the challenges we faced, but he united Indians also". Main yeh shapath apne desh ki ekta ki bhawna se le raha hun, jisey Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ki doordarshita evam karyon dwara sambhaw banaya ja sakaa.

"There have been attempts to run down Patel, to ensure that the contribution of Patel was forgotten".

The "Run for Unity", which began from the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, saw the participation of a large number of people, including sports personalities like Sardar Singh, Deepa Karmakar, Suresh Raina and Karnam Malleswari.

The minister was addressing a function organised by Patel Sewa Sangh, Bihar, to celebrate the 142nd birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India.

Mr Modi said India will be always proud of Sardar Patel's contributions and it would also continue to inspire thousands of countrymen to serve the country.

India is a land of diversity and our varied culture is a testimony to the different kind of people, we have in our motherland.

"An embodiment of integrity and strength, Sardar Patel was one of the architects of Idea of India". The event was flagged off by Union Minister Jual Oram.

The Prime Minister said India's teaching of unity amid diversity is relevant in the global context especially at a time when the racial fights have become the order of the day in several countries.

Referring to the high moral standards followed by the late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Mr Naidu said he never allowed his son to remain in Delhi while he was part of the government.
