When Is Daylight Saving Time 2017? What Time Do the Clocks Change?

Dan La Moore wipes down a Shinola clock at Electric Time Co. in Medfield Mass. Daylight Saving Time officially ends Sunday Nov. 5

Hawaii and Arizona are the only states to not participate in daylight saving time. That way, your clocks will be accurate when you awaken Sunday. In New York City and along the East Coast of the United States the sun will rise at 6:31 a.m. EST.

November 5 is this upcoming Sunday, and sunrise and sunset will both be pushed back by one hour, meaning early risers will enjoy an extra hour of sunlight. He's credited with originally coming up with the concept of daylight saving to extend the days during the warmer summer months.

1945-1966 - There is no federal law regarding Daylight Saving Time. However, the 2005 Energy Policy Act moved DST up three weeks earlier and ended it a week later. Since it became a law, any state has been allowed to opt out, as long as it passed a state law to do so, something only Arizona and Hawaii now have in place.

Despite being practiced by many, lawmakers in several states are increasingly trying to avoid the time change, claiming it is unnecessary.

Can you believe it's already time to set your clocks back?

Originally adopted in Europe and the U.S.to save energy during World War I, daylight saving time has always been controversial, The Washington Post noted growing research now shows switching the clocks twice a year saves little, if any, energy.

It wasn't until about a hundred years later that European nations like Germany (the first to adopt Daylight Saving during World War I), France, and England adopted the practice as a way to save fuel for the war effort.

Whether the method is dealing with it before falling asleep or after waking up, just know that when the clock strikes 2 a.m. Sunday that it will officially be 1 a.m.
