Russia Used Video Game Screenshots to "Prove" the US Is Assisting ISIS

A report from Russian state news agency TASS says that a civil service employee "erroneously attached wrong photo illustrations" to the defense ministry's social media posts.

The Russian defence ministry attempted to pass off an image from a video game as "irrefutable evidence" that the U.S. was cooperating with Isil in Syria.

Russian Federation re-published the video writing, "The U.S. are actually covering the ISIS combat units to recover their combat capabilities, redeploy, and use them to promote the American interests in the Middle East".

At least one of the photographs exactly matched a frame from a promotional video for a "AC-130 Gunship Simulator" computer game posted online in March 2015.

The defence ministry claims the jihadist fighters operate disguised as members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with USA support and that the government offensive on Abu Kamal has interrupted American plans to create a pro-US area on the eastern shore of the Euphrates River.

"Twitter users quickly found out that 4 out of 5 "drone photos" were actually taken from videos released by the Iraqi Ministry of Defence in June 2016, showing the Iraqi Air Force bombing IS near Fallujah. All content subject to change".

The Russian Defense Ministry did what every other troll does when caught red-handed - it deleted both posts. It later reposted the same statement with different images. As the Syrian military's campaign outpaced a parallel anti-ISIS offensive by the US and the Syrian Democratic Forces, a mostly Kurdish coalition of Arabs and ethnic minorities, Russian Federation accused the USA of helping ISIS escape as Syrian troops and their allies closed in on Al-Bukamal earlier this week.

"The claim itself is actually ridiculous", Kofman said, with a laugh.

The Russian military is investigating claims that a civilian employee attached the bogus images, state-run media reported later Tuesday.

"We find this behavior particularly disappointing and inconsistent with the spirit of the November 11 joint statement by the President of the United States and the President of the Russian Federation", said Maj.
