Jeff Bezos Net Worth Hits $100 Billion Mark, Thanks To Black Friday

Black Friday bonanza springs Jeff Bezos top of the rich list, his networth crosses USD 100 bn-mark

The Amazon founder's fortune surpassed $100 billion after increasing $2.4 billion this week, thanks to an increase in Amazon's stock price tied to expectations for booming Black Friday sales.

Founder and largest shareholder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos has not only become the richest person in the world, but also touched the Dollars 100 billion-mark for the first time, according to a Bloomberg report. The Amazon founder is the newest member of the $100 billion club after increasing his fortune by $2.4 billion to $100.3 billion.

Gates is the second wealthiest man, according to Bloomberg's Billionaire's Index, with a net worth estimated earlier this year of $88.9 billion.

It climbed after reports showed online shopping for Thanksgiving and Black Friday jumping 18% over a year ago.

Gates is believed to be the only other person to reach $100 billion.

As the founder and CEO of Amazon, Bezos is known to hold 78.9 million shares. Unlike the number two and three on the list of richest people in the world - Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, respectively - Bezos has given comparatively little to charity over the years. However, given the rate his net worth has increased over the past few years, it won't be long before he finds more firm ground beyond the almost inconceivable 12-figure value.

Now being tagged as the world's richest man, Bezos will start to receive questions on his plans to spend this wealth. It will also be interesting to see whether or not he will announce anything significant in the way of philanthropic endeavors in the short term. This past June he asked Twitter for ideas on how to be a better philanthropist.
