Pharma Bro Forfeiture: Shkreli May Pay Millions, Lose Legendary Wu Tang Album

The government said in its submission Friday it may also seek a Picasso painting Shkreli owns, his Enigma machine from World War II and $5 million from his E-Trade brokerage account.

In a schadenfreude-inducing letter, Rhode spells out the potential fines for Shkreli, who was convicted of securities fraud earlier this year. Remember, the pharma bro purchased the Wu-Tang album for 2 million bucks, and apparently got his hands on 'Carter V.' He infamously leaked a few tracks.

Shkreli, 34, is being held at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center while awaiting sentencing. In a filing Friday, prosecutors list assets they can seize that would satisfy their monetary demands. The former biotech CEO, known for provocative online antics, played short excerpts while live-streaming himself in his Manhattan apartment after President Donald Trump's election and his conviction. A listing for the album was posted on eBay and allegedly sold for $1 million in September - while Shkreli was in prison - though the buyer was never identified.

Martin Shkreli, left, talks with reporters while standing next to his attorney Benjamin Brafman after leaving federal court in NY on August 4, 2017. The sale was completed while Shkreli was in jail, after his bail was revoked for posting a freakish request on Facebook to pay $5,000 for a strand of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's hair. Shkreli later apologized and said he was joking.

"Now that Shkreli has been convicted, substitute assets of his have been located and should be applied to partially satisfy the forfeiture money judgment", the government said in a letter to U.S. District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto.

Shkreli, who disputed the charges, signaled through his attorney he would also oppose the forfeiture request.
