Donald Trump asks Xi Jinping to cut off North Korea's oil

Teeth of the Dragon China Conducts Missile Defense Test to Korean Border

Haley added that US President Donald Trump spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping about the efforts to end North Korea's aggression.

Geng also said that North Korea, "fully understands the importance of initiatives aimed at de-escalating the conflict, which were proposed by China and Russian Federation".

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley further escalated tensions on the Korean Peninsula Wednesday by warning that North Korea would be "utterly destroyed" if war breaks out and suggesting that if China doesn't shut off its oil shipments to Pyongyang, the U.S. would.

U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed a Chinese diplomatic effort to rein in North Korea's weapons program as a failure on Thursday, while Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Beijing was doing a lot, but could do more to limit oil supplies to Pyongyang.

Haley called on all nations to sever all ties with North Korea and continued with the warnings saying if China did not cut off its oil supply to North Korea, the USA would "take the oil situation into our own hands", suggesting further escalation of tensions in the region.

Trump has vowed to prevent North Korea from having the capability to strike the USA mainland with a nuclear-tipped missile, using military force if necessary.

China and Russian Federation objected to that idea in the latest United Nations sanctions resolution.

The Trump administration threatened new sanctions on North Korea after the reclusive government broke 10 weeks of relative quiet with its most powerful weapon test yet. China is North Korea's neighbor and its sole major trading partner. "China can do this on its own, or we can take the oil situation into our own hands".

Wicker was making his comments at nearly the same time that Nikki Haley, the USA ambassador to the United Nations, was warning China that it must cut off its remaining oil shipments to North Korea.

One option for North Korean partners of joint ventures in China is to sell out ahead of when sanctions take effect in January.

However, Tillerson may not remain in his job long, with disagreements with Trump over North Korea being one factor.

What worsens that situation, Wicker went on to say, is that China remains an adversary of the United States and its allies because it wants to dominate the Pacific Ocean. "North Korea could turn chaotic", he said.
