Bill O'Reilly sued by former Fox News producer for defamation

Bill O'Reilly Sued by Allegedly Abused Employee You Talked Trash On Me

A lady who entered a secret settlement concurrence with Bill O'Reilly in 2002 while at Fox News charged in a claim Monday that the "serial abuser and quitter" spread her as a liar, breaking the terms of their arrangement.

Rachel Witlieb Bernstein claims in her U.S. District Court for the Southern District of NY suit Bernstein v. O'Reilly, 17-cv-09483, that she was not the source of information for the April 1 story that appeared in the Times.

Fox News fired its famed host in April amid several sexual harassment allegations against him. Bernstein alleges that Fox News, through its parent company, 21st Century Fox, falsely told The Times that it had received no complaints to an anonymous company hotline because, she contends, there wasn't a hotline while she was employed there in 2002.

"O'Reilly portrayed himself as a "target" and claimed that complaints against him are extortionate", Ms. Bernstein's lawsuit said.

That line, and in addition other open proclamations, spoke to a break of his settlement manage Bernstein, she claims in Manhattan Federal Court. Bernstein's attorneys also pointed to O'Reilly's response to another Times story published in October, which stated that he paid a $32 million settlement earlier this year to Lis Wiehl, a former legal analyst for Fox News.

Bernstein is one of six known to have reached settlements after making sexual harassment accusations against Mr. O'Reilly, which ultimately led to O'Reilly's firing from Fox News, reports the New York Times.

Bernstein argued that all this violates the non-disparagement and confidentiality clauses in her settlement. Her lawsuit said both O'Reilly and Fox News wrote false statements claiming that no one went to a company hotline to make claims against O'Reilly. "Mr. O'Reilly is fully committed to supporting our efforts to improve the environment for all our employees at Fox News". The article said that the former host "stormed into the newsroom and screamed at a young producer, according to current and former employees, some of whom witnessed the incident".

O'Reilly was constrained out of Fox News in April following a progression of disclosures about affirmed lewd behavior and manhandle.
