Bryan Singer Fired From Directing Freddie Mercury Biopic After On-Set Drama

The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has fired director Bryan Singer from Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen biopic that audiences have been looking forward to for years. This was a very taxing experience, which ultimately took a serious toll on my own health.

Director Bryan Singer has been fired from the upcoming Queen/Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. While Singer acknowledged creative differences with Malek, he told THR that they worked through them, dismissing the idea that differences between the two had anything to do with his departure from the film.

In a non-physical altercation with Malek, Singer reportedly threw an object.

Trouble began when Singer went missing during production on several occasions. It hasn't been specified exactly how much of Queen's history will appear in Bohemian Rhapsody and there's a good two decades between the band forming and Mercury's tragic death in 1991. The termination follows Fox Studio's statement from 1 December, announcing the temporary halting of production on Bohemian Rhapsody due to the "unexpected unavailability" of Bryan Singer. His dismissal late Monday (Dec. 4) by Twentieth Century Fox comes after Singer disappeared from the set last week and - citing at the time a "personal health matter" - failed to return following a Thanksgiving break.

Rami Malek is starring as the legendary frontman Freddie Mercury in the movie that had been filming in London.

The studio terminated Singer under the "pay or play" provision of his contract, sources indicated, due to his repeated failures to show up on the set. In Singer's absence, cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel reportedly stepped in to direct. The outlet says an insider claims Singer is "suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder because of the tensions on the set". "Bohemian Rhapsody" is now slated for a release date of December 25, 2018.

No word yet on his replacement, but an announcement is expected in the next few days.

"The full cast of the film was revealed shortly after, with 'X-Men Apocalypse" s Ben Hardy playing drummer Roger Taylor, 'The Tourist" s Gwilym Lee portraying Brian May and 'Jurassic Park" s Joe Mazzello taking the role of bass guitarist John Deacon.
