Willie Taggart To Coach Florida State, Leaves Oregon After One Season

OR head coach Willie Taggart agreed to terms to become Florida State Seminoles' next head football coach, according to Sports Illustrated's Bruce Feldman.

Taggart was a possible candidate for other open head coaching jobs this year, but Feldman passed along he was not leaving OR for anywhere other than Florida State if it was available.

Taggart spent just one season at OR following his tenure locally at the University of South Florida.

Fisher was the head-coach-in-waiting at Florida State and replaced Bowden before the 2010 season.

"Do Something" became his tagline for his first season with the Ducks.

Taggart has a 47-50 career record, including 7-5 this season, but is known as a rebuilder. Taggart is expected to bring in several top assistants, many with ties to the state of Florida. Taggart also coached running backs at Stanford under Jim Harbaugh. A 10-2 campaign in 2016 paved the way for Taggart to make a move up to a Power 5 school, and he went to OR to replace Mark Helfrich.

Haggins led the Seminoles (6-6) to a 42-10 win over Louisiana-Monroe in Saturday's regular-season finale. Shockingly, that already makes Mullen the fifth-longest serving coach in the Sunshine State.

Taggart is known for changing cultures and being highly adaptable at all of the schools he has coached. According to 247Sports, he reeled in the nation's ninth best recruiting class for 2018 with nine 4-star recruits, four of which were from Florida. "The University of OR is a high-caliber academic institution with one of the premier college football programs in the country, and we are confident that we will find another outstanding coach to lead our tremendous group of student-athletes into the future". Cristobal's task, now, will be to prep up the Ducks for their Las Vegas Bowl showdown with Boise State on December 16 as OR goes about their coaching search.
