Texas Democrat Al Green plans to force impeachment vote in House

Democrats Join GOP in Killing House Resolution to Impeach Trump

Most mainline Democrats believe that voting for impeachment is a premature move when the President is at the center of an ever expanding federal probe into whether anyone in his campaign colluded with Russian Federation to influence the outcome of the presidential election.

"Brought shame and dishonor to the office of president of the United States".

"In doing this, hatred disguised as acceptable political correctness has festered in our body politic and polluted our discourse to our detriment", Green said.

Rep. Al Green plans to force a vote in the House on December 6 to impeach President Donald Trump.

The House has to approve the articles of impeachment by a simple majority before they would move on to the Senate. That's because Republicans narrowly control the House and Democrats are divided on the issue.

Democratic Lawmakers Say Sen. Franken Should Resign

Green is using what's called a privileged resolution to bring up his bill filing articles of impeachment, which allows him to force a vote in the House within two days without having to get agreement from House Speaker Paul Ryan first. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Steny Hoyer, the second-ranking Democrat in the House, are both expected to vote to table the motion.

In the resolution, Green argues that Trump has sewn discord among Americans "by associating the majesty and dignity of the presidency with causes rooted in white supremacy, bigotry, racism, anti-Semitism, white nationalism, or neo-Nazism". "It is not about Republicans, it is about the fate of our Republic", Green wrote to colleagues Tuesday.

Pelosi and Hoyer said in a statement that while legitimate questions exist about Trump's fitness to lead, now is not the time for impeachment. "The special counsel's investigation is moving forward as well, and those inquiries should be allowed to continue". It does detail Trump's dalliances with the far right - including his failure to quickly denounce the white-nationalist marchers in Charlottesville - and his recent tweeting of anti-Muslim videos circulated by a British extremist group, as well as public acts and statements denigrating various groups and individuals.
