A New Tomb Raider Game To Be Revealed in 2018

New Tomb Raider game will be Lara Croft's defining adventure in 2018

The official Facebook page announced the following message: "Square Enix is excited to share some big news with you next year". In recent years, announcements have been coming earlier and earlier, sometimes spanning years between the initial announcement and when the game actually launches.

Part of the reason that today's announcement is light on details is that Square Enix is "taking a new approach this time" with its rollout plan.

Square Enix claimed that its journey will begin with a major event in 2018. Take for example, the very first capital letter from each sentence in the statement and you get "Shadow" as a word. While the name wasn't confirmed, we do know we'll be continuing Lara Croft's adventure very soon. This was interesting considering the second title, Rise of the Tomb Raider, wasn't even released yet.

What would you like to see in the new game?

There's more raiding of the tombs in Lara Croft's future - both on film and in video games. Combine that with the 11 million made by its predecessor and it's clear why Square-Enix would want to continue developing new games in the series.

Story info and a more specific release date on the third game are unknown at this time.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will instead be developed by Eidos Montreal, of Thief and Deus Ex fame - a fact Eurogamer sources have also verified.
