Google Maps now gives real-time notifications, live guidance

Google Maps will soon tell you when it's time to get off your train or bus

The real-time updates will be given while a user is are on his/her transit journey and the updates will appear in the Google Maps app.

For example, if you're looking for a coffee shop in a new neighborhood, you could open Google Maps and look for the nearest orange icon - the color code for Food and Drink places. Over the coming months, we're going to see Google Maps updated with new features that will make travelling in the real world a little bit less of a pain.

The main function of the upcoming feature is to provide real-time updates for passengers as they ride mass transit, according to Tech Crunch.

According to the report, Google Maps users in transit mode will get notifications updates similar to driving mode, such as reminder to get off a bus or train when he/she gets close to a stop.

If you've ever had to use public transportation, you would know how stressful it can be making sure that you get off at the correct stop, especially if you haven't used the particular route before.

When you do, the app will start delivering live updates, depending on whereabouts you are on your journey.

To activate the feature, users input their destination (as usual) and hit a new "start" button on the bottom of the screen. With this new feature, Google Maps can help prevent you from missing your bus or train stop and ending up in a neighboring city 20 miles past where you planned to get off. Is this a function you'd like to see in Google Maps?

Let's face it, there have been situations where many of us have been lost and stuck on the road but never has it been this easy to get unlost and unstuck, if you just have a smartphone and a data connection that's working. Google hopes to roll out the feature to other cities in the future.

Google has been testing out the feature among a small group of users, with plans to launch it 'soon, ' TechCrunch reports.
