White House Pushes Back at Times Immigration Report: 'Outrageous'

NYT: Trump Said in June Haitians 'All Have AIDS,' Nigerians Live in 'Huts'

Mr Trump was said to have made the comments during the meeting with senior staff in June, at which he is said to have complained too many were receiving visas.

Trump was specifically angered that thousands of foreigners had obtained visas during the first year of his presidency, even though he promised campaign supporters he would curtail immigration. In a shocking story Saturday, The New York Times cited two sources who described in explicit terms how Trump has raged against his advisers for not doing more to translate his nativist politics into policy.

The White House is said to have confirmed the meeting.

In a meeting he reportedly attended in June at the Oval Office, Trump was quoted to have said Nigerians refuse to "return to their huts" after seeing America.

He also complained about 2,500 people who had traveled to the U.S. from Afghanistan, which he said was a terrorist haven, according to a New York Times report citing two officials who had either attended or were briefed on the meeting. But the Times story notes that two anonymous officials who served as sources for the article deemed the comments so noteworthy at the time that they told others.

"Haiti had sent 15,000 people".

An explosive report from The New York Times seemed to confirm the worst fears of many about Donald Trump - that he's a xenophobic racist with a deep resentments against those of African origin.

Although some administration officials acknowledged that the meeting took place, they denied that the president used "AIDS" and "huts" at the meeting.

As the meeting continued, John F. Kelly, then the secretary of homeland security, and Rex W. Tillerson, the secretary of state, tried to interject, explaining that many were short-term travelers making one-time visits.

According to the Telegraph of London, the White House denied to the New York Times that Mr Trump used the words "AIDS" or "huts" in reference to immigrants, calling the suggestions "lies based on anonymous sources".

"All other senior staff actually in the meeting deny these outrageous claims", press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told The Times.

The White House denied the former reality TV star made the controversial remarks.
