Noor Mohammad Tantray, 3 Feet Tall JeM 'commander' Killed In Kashmir Valley

Kashmir Indian forces kill Jaish-e Mohammad commander in Pulwama says Defence Ministry

Police said they received a tip-off Monday night about the presence of two to three militants in Samboora in south Kashmir's Awantipora district.

In July 2017, after the Aripal encounter in which three JeM terrorists were killed, Tantray went underground and soon became the key man of the terror outfit in coordinating and organizing attacks at different places, he said.

A crack team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, acting on a specific input, had cordoned off a cluster of houses at Samboora which resulted in a fierce gunbattle leading to the elimination of the top JeM commander.

Army's 1 Sector deputy commander, Sanjeev Saroch, while speaking to reporters said Noor Trali's killing was "a major blow" to the JeM and "another major success" for the security forces.

The 47-year-old Chhota Noora was reportedly the "chief architect" of a militant attack on a Border Security Force (BSF) camp outside the Srinagar International Airport in October.

Noor was reported to be a close aid to Ghazi Baba JeM commander who carried out attack at Parliament in 2001. They were planning to lash out an attack on a convoy of security personnel in the Kashmir valley.

Sources said Tantray was also found to be involved in the grenade attack on State PWD Minister Naeem Akhtar's cavalcade in Tral on September 21.

"No one would suspect him to be a terrorist and that is why Jaish recruited him as an over-ground worker", a senior police officer told the Indian broadcaster NDTV citing his height.

Chhota Noora was granted 21-days parole in 2015, but he jumped the parole and never returned to jail.

Adding to the details, Shesh Paul Vaid, the Director General of Police, also hinted on an attack which was being planned by Tantray and his associates on a convoy on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway.

"Noor was a convict; a case was registered against him in 2003 and he was released on parole after which he became a very strong OGW of JeM".
