All 50 states agree to use AT&T first responder network

FirstNet Media Kits | First Responder Network Authority

Governor Rick Scott approved a plan Thursday to allow AT&T and the First Responder Network Authority to design a new wireless broadband network for here in Florida's public safety community. The carrier recently held an opt-in/out period during which states had to decide whether they wanted in...and, it turns out, they all do.

FirstNet plans to complete a core network across 56 US states and territories by March 2018, and expects to finish their complete infrastructure build-out around 2020.

With Brown's decision, all 50 states, the District of Columbia and two territories-Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands-have made "opt-in" decisions. Three Pacific territories-Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands-did not receive their state plans until this month and have a March 18 deadline for their "opt-in/opt-out" decisions.

"Thanks to Gov. Bryant's opt-in decision, first responders in MS will now have access to the pioneering communications tools made possible with FirstNet", Mayo Flynt, president of AT&T MS, said in a prepared statement. States that don't announce decisions will be included in the FirstNet project.

"Whether we're responding to wildfires in eastern Washington or floods in western Washington, our first responders must have a reliable communications network and this process was about ensuring we get them the best service possible", Inslee said in the press release.

"During our negotiations with AT&T over the past several months, the state identified a number of concerns with the proposed for California", according to Ghilarducci's letter. "And they'll be able to help people".

That system, which is operated through a partnership with AT&T, is meant to deliver dependable wireless broadband internet connections to public safety community members.
