Travel could become impossible as major winter storm moves in

The Winter Weather Advisory was issued because travel conditions will be hazardous.

Not only are we tracking the bitter cold, but we're tracking some snow showers for our Saturday, enough to make for slick travel for parts of southern New England. There is possibility of 1-3 inches of snow in the Stafford-LBI area.

Wind chills could fall well below zero and at times down to or lower than -15°.

A wide band of accumulating snow is forecast to spread into the Chicago area from the west - reaching westernmost portions of the area late morning, eventually covering the remainder of the area into northwest IN by mid-afternoon. Accumulating snow is expected for the final weekend of the year.

The snowfall totals will be greater north of Interstate 70. Snow will linger through midnight Saturday morning. Be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. "The Quad Cites and surrounding counties will be under a Winter Storm Warning until 9 PM due to the potential of seeing up to 6" of snow.
