In what could have been the final game for coach John Fox, who's 14-34 in three seasons, the Bears didn't cross midfield until the fourth quarter and totaled only 30 yards rushing.

The Bears simply can not keep Vikings defenders at bay, culminating in a safety of Mitchell Trubisky, who tried getting rid of the ball in the face of a relentless pass rush. He also gave up a safety.

Minnesota again used the latter to secure the former in a 23-10 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday to improve to 13-3 and lock up the conference's second seed.

The Vikings got two more points before halftime, pressuring Trubisky in the end zone and forcing the rookie quarterback to throw the ball away. Chicago's offense finally scored with 8:22 to play via a 55-yard Mike Nugent field goal.

After a 31-24 loss at Carolina on December 10, the Vikings took advantage of teams playing out the string in the last three games to get set for the playoffs.

Minnesota's last bye in the first round came in the 2010 playoffs. The 13 wins are the franchise's most since 1998, when the 15-1 Vikings under Randall Cunningham and Brad Childress advanced to the NFC championship game. Despite the minus-11 temperature outside at the start of the game, all fans were required to open their coats for inspection.

Bears: Two starting offensive linemen, LT Bobby Massie and RG Josh Sitton, did not suit up. Chicago has won two of three in what has been another hard season under the watch of John Fox, who has heard rumblings about his job after posting a 14-33 mark at the helm in the Windy City. His first season in Chicago was his best, with a 6-10 record.

As Ryan Quigley lined up to punt in the second quarter, the Bears put Tarik Cohen back to return the kick, but stashed Bryce Callahan along the left sideline. A potent running game and stifling defense helped Case Keenum emerge victorious despite completing just 14 of 25 for 139 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 16-0 win over Green Bay.
