Apple acquires Canadian app development service Buddybuild

App Store Apple

In March previous year, Apple chief executive Tim Cook announced his intent to launch a startup accelerator for the iOS developer community in India. At the same time, it will remain available for its existing customers and its Android app development venture will end in the coming March. The more people or companies develop apps for its devices, the more customers will be interested in buying iPhones or iPads.

The Buddybuild team will remain in Vancouver, and we would expect that some of those who were in charge of the Android-related code to leave their current positions for another company. Billions of dollars in research have poured into it. Companies are already generating substantial revenue, and even more wondrous products are in the pipeline.

In its short history, Buddybuild raised around US$9 million in funding, so we would expect a price of at least US$10 million or maybe much more. Similarly, when Apple acquired TestFlight, it also discontinued Android compatibility, which removed a vital development tool from the ecosystem of Google.

Aside from new hardware sales which inevitably spurted sales, Apple also places some of the responsibility for the increased income on the new App Store saying that it made "app and game discovery fun and easy for the over half a billion customers that visit the App Store every week".

With this acquisition, developers will find it easier to develop and iterate their apps for iOS. Hopefully, Apple's Xcode will grow with this new acquisition. Previous year also saw Apple unveil a redesigned App Store with the release of iOS 11 in September. This is according to App Annie report, which claims that Apple garnered revenue of approximately $11 billion in the third quarter of a year ago while Android managed to clock only $6 billion in the same period.

Buddybuild was established in 2015 by former Amazon employees Dennis Pilarinos and Christopher Stott. Back in 2014, Apple acquired Burstly, which made TestFlight, a popular beta testing platform. Within three years since its birth, the startup has managed to make a profit of around $8.8 million.

As Apple acquires BuddyBuild, it is not just looking to expand on greener pastures like coming up with its first scripted television series but also keeping a strong hold on what they are known for!
