Game of Thrones returns in 2019, HBO confirms for first time

HBO has reported that D.B. Weiss, David Nutter, David Benioff and Miguel Sapochnik will be directing Game of Thrones season 8.

Fans were eagerly waiting for the season finale as it is expected to reveal which of the warring families in the fictional Seven Kingdoms of Westeros will win the multigenerational struggle for control of the mega Iron Throne. The Emmy winning TV series is set to release a six-episode final season for all it's fans. This will so far be the shortest season ever, compared to the 10 episodes each, of the first six seasons.

After long speculation about the air date of the eighth and final season, the HBO show is taking a year off and will return with the new season.

There was no month specified for the 2019 launch, but it will have been well over a year since season seven aired by even the earliest possible airdate. The others have all had roles creating the mythical world of author George R.R. Martin. An additional 4 million caught the episode on streaming channels.
