Ross Barkley medical expected at Chelsea

Ross Barkley- Everton to Chelsea

Chelsea is racing to rush through a deal for Everton star Ross Barkley so that they can ensure that Tottenham doesn't beat them there first.

The 24-year-old's future has been subject to speculation for some time, particularly since the summer transfer window in which he rejected a deal with Chelsea on deadline day.

Barkley fell out of favour under former Everton boss Ronald Koeman following his refusal to sign a new contract last season.

The January transfer window is now open so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer.

According to reports Chelsea are expected to strike a £15m deal with the Toffees for the England global, whose contract at Goodison Park concludes at the end of this season.

"I think the club was resigned before I got here that they were going to lose Ross".

The England global has less than six months left on his contract at Goodison Park and Tottenham was hoping to get him for free in the summer.

It remains to be seen whether Pochettino has lined up another target, which could have changed his mind about signing Barkley.

Barkley, who has not featured for Everton this season despite recently returning to first-team training following hamstring surgery, had less than six months remaining on his contract at Goodison Park.

The England worldwide claimed he wanted a new challenge and there was reported interest in him from Tottenham Hotspur as well as the reigning Premier League champions.
