Pakistan promises 'cold-blooded' response to Trump's abrupt aid cut

However, he said that in case the USA took action against Pakistan, it would be responded in accordance with the aspirations of the Pakistani people.

US President Donald Trump's administration has been informing members of Congress that it will announce as soon as Thursday its plans to cut off "security assistance" to Pakistan, congressional aides said Wednesday, a day after the White House warned Islamabad it would have to do more to maintain US aid. The US carried out some 60,000 attacks from Pakistani soil, it said.

The Express Tribune noted that Islamabad refuses to "do more" to combat terrorism in South Asia.

A former top American diplomat - who served as the United States envoy to Afghanistan, Iraq and the UN - today suggested a series of steps against Pakistan including slapping sanctions against the spy agency ISI and unilateral strikes inside its territory to end Islamabad's double game. "We tried to please you on the cost of our economy, we provided tens of thousands of visas as a result of which the networks of Black Water spread across our country", he said.

The day after, the Trump administration announced it was withholding $255 million in military aid from Pakistan.

Sanders said Trump was taking all these steps because Pakistan had failed to fulfill its obligations in the fight against terrorism.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry reportedly summoned US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale over Trump's remarks.

Pakistani Defense Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan returned criticism in a tweet noting that Islamabad "as anti-terror ally has given free to USA: land & air communication, military bases & intel cooperation that decimated Al-Qaeda over last 16yrs, but [the United States has] given us nothing but invective & mistrust".

In his tweets, Trump blamed Pakistani leaders of covering up their misdeeds with "lies and deceit".

Speaking earlier with BBC Urdu, Khan said Washington ought to "prefer" cooperation over confrontation, noting that half of Pakistan's airspace and land routes were still open to the USA - and without them, its ability to operate in Afghanistan would be greatly diminished.

Relations with Washington have been strained for years over Islamabad's alleged support for Haqqani network militants, who are allied with the Afghan Taliban.

"Let it come", army spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor had told reporters, referring to Trump's decision.

Mr. Trump has signaled his frustration with Pakistan in the fight against terror since he lashed out at the country during an August speech outlining his strategy in Afghanistan.

"As neighbours linked by rivers and mountains and shared common interests and cultural origins, it's natural and necessary for China, Afghan and Pakistan to conduct cooperation".

"It is impossible to compensate the losses we have suffered", he proclaimed, adding, "We lost 70,000 lives in America's war".

The $255-million aid denied to Pakistan came from the security-related part of the package, which are broadly aimed at boosting the country's counter-terrorism capabilities. "There are several occasions where Pakistan has sided with the US".

"So I think it would be prudent and wise for the diplomats to try to patch this up as soon as possible, and not to push Pakistan into arms of other regional powers, who are quite willing and able to take Pakistan on board", he said. "President Trump has put Pakistan on notice", Pence had told American troops at the Bagram Airfield.
