That store is expected to close in early April.

According to CNBC, Sears Holdings will close 100 stores between March and April this year.

The company did not disclose how many employees will be affected by the closures, but did say the employees will receive severance and will also have the opportunity to apply for open positions at other local Sears or Kmart stores.

Kmart had 38 stores in MI at the beginning of 2016, when aggressive rounds of store closings began, related to two factors: Chain financial performance and the landlord, Seritage Growth Properties, terminating their occupancy.

Alyssa Rodriguez, a sales supervisor at the Kmart in Portland, said store staff was notified of the closure Thursday.

Liquidation sales will begin as soon as next Friday at the stores.

After April, Sears will still operate traditional stores at the Concord and Dover malls while keeping its "Hometown Stores" in Seaford and Middletown and its appliance outlet store in Newark.

In October, Whirlpool Corp., one of Sears' biggest vendors and one of the biggest manufacturers in Cleveland, Tenn., said it would stop supplying brand appliances to Sears.

In total, 39 Sears and 64 Kmart stores will close. Fargo also lost its Sears past year.

Sears had owned the 143,000-square-foot space since 2000. The Kmart at 3555 Tammany Parkway was the only Louisiana location targeted in the current round of closings.

Employees at the stores were informed of the pending closures on Thursday.

Even though J.C. Penney reported that same-store sales climbed more than 3 percent during November and December compared with a year ago, and Macy's reported strong holiday sales, a turnaround is unlikely for either, according to analysts.
