H and M apologizes after racism charges in monkey sweatshirt ad

HM Racist Green Hoodie

Celebrities, local and worldwide, have vowed to boycott global retain brand H&M, after it posted an advert with a black child model wearing a sweatshirt emblazoned with the words "Coolest Monkey In The Jungle".

Singer The Weeknd said Monday that he will no longer work with H&M.

After the initial outcry, many chose to take a proactive approach by recreating the image of the boy in the hoodie and making it into something special. When you look at us make sure you see royalty and super natural God sent glory! "You won't see me anywhere near your shops these days hm".

The need for sensitivity in marketing and advertising is a crucial step towards inclusion. The Weeknd - real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye - subsequently tweeted that he was "shocked and embarrassed" by the image and would not work with H&M again in the future. The ruler of the world, an untouchable force that can never be denied!

On Instagram, the Cavaliers superstar posted a photoshopped version of the image with the boy wearing a crown and a shirt with LeBron's Nike logo on it.

The Swedish company apologized for the ad, saying in a statement to NBC News that it is "deeply sorry that the picture was taken".

The singer had sold merchandise through H&M and previously modelled for the retailer.

The company added that they agreed with The Weeknd's reaction and would "continue the discussion" with the star and his team.

The other hoodies in the category, which featured more neutral phrases like "survival expert" and print of giraffes and tigers, were all worn by white child models.
