Celebrities call for #JusticeforZainab to end girls' rape and murder in Pakistan

Minor girl brutally raped, killed and dumped in trash in Kasur

Her body was found in a garbage pile near the Kashmir Chowk after four days, Geo News reported. There was mud, fecal matter and blood found on her body, Attique said.

A Dawn report said that two people had died in clashes with police and other security personnel. Zainab, who was staying with an aunt while her parents were on a pilgrimage, was reported missing Friday.

Last night, Samaa TV's 7pm broadcast was dedicated to Zainab - with anchor Kiran Naz criticising authorities over their handling of the murder.

Several Pakistani political leaders, sports and film personalities took to social media to condemn the incident and demanded justice for the girl.

The protesters pelted stones at the police station, offices of district police officer and district coordination officer in Kasur as the city observed a complete shut down.

In the news bulletin, Naz points out the sad irony, that while the girl's parents were praying for their daughter's long life in Saudi Arabia and buying her toys, a "monster in Pakistan was raping her and throwing her body in trash".

Zainab, who lived in the city of Kasur in Punjab province, was kidnapped by a mysterious man on January 5 on her way to a tuition center, CCTV footage showed.

KASUR: JI Amir Siraj ul Haq has said assembly members from Kasur should resign from their seats on brutal incident of rape and murder of Zainab.

An initial postmortem report confirms she had been raped, police said.

People light candles in memory of the seven-year-old girl who was raped and killed in Kasur. She managed to escape her captor and return home but has been left severely traumatised by her ordeal, reports say. Along with them are celebrities, cricketers and even Nobel peace prize victor Malala Yousafzai.

In a condemnation posted on Twitter, PTI chief stated: "This is not the first time such horrific acts have happened".

Pakistani politician and ex-international cricket player Imran Khan also condemned the incident and said that the guilty must be punished "swiftly". At least two people have been convicted in the case, in which authorities say hundreds of children in the district were abused.

"If there is any humanity, they should take action immediately."

He said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has told the forensic lab to expedite the process for Zainab's autopsy.

Pakistan Peoples Party chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari criticised the provincial government.
