'Unusual layer of brown grass' worries Proteas' captain Faf du Plessis

Kohli has asked the batsmen to step up following the loss in the opening Test

South Africa were not entirely sure what to expect of a hard yet brown Centurion pitch but skipper Faf du Plessis was confident his team had the firepower to make things happen.

"Watching Virat Kohli excluding Shikhar Dhawan for just one Test failure, and Bhuvneshwar for no reason at all, Kohli should drop himself in the third Test at Centurion, if he fails to perform in Centurion", Sehwag told "India TV". "Both teams are into the contest and will have to play some good cricket".

"So, I don't think anyone needs to panic on that front and as far as your opening combination goes, we are going to decide at the end of the practice session today", the skipper said. "Bhuvneshwar performed well in Cape Town and excluding him like this isn't justified", Sehwag added. "This pitch will again test us to play our best cricket and that is something we are looking forward to".

"From what I got from the groundsman, the grass on the wicket has been burned from the heat last week when it was very hot. For us at the moment it's unknown".

"Generally‚ Centurion does not spin that much but there is a thick layer of brown grass on it and it is not something that we are used to here‚" he said.

Du Plessis said he expected India to mount a strong challenge."India at times were really good at Newlands. I said that match was one of the best I played in because there were so many ups and downs for both teams‚" he said. India lost the match by 72 runs and Rohit managed to score a combined total of 21 runs in the Test. "I expect they will take a lot of positives from the game and I expect another huge performance from them". This coming from Virender Sehwag who has always been on Kohli's side is a big statement and shows how animated he got at the sight of Bhuvneshwar Kumar not making it to the playing XI.

Talking about the balance in the team, he said, "Do we want to keep the same balance, of four seamers and a spinner, or do we look at an allrounder". Replacing Ashwin with a specialist batsman like KL Rahul would also provide more solidity to the batting order.
