Google Building 3 New Undersea Cables to Expand Cloud Business

Google to Expand Cloud Infrastructure With New Regions Submarine Cables

The company, a division of Alphabet Inc., has announced that it will expand its Cloud services to five new regions, and build three new submarine cables to service its capacity needs.

"We'll open our Netherlands and Montreal regions in the first quarter of 2018, followed by Los Angeles, Finland, and Hong Kong - with more to come", he said. Stock value has moved between $813.42 - 1119.46 in last one year.

The cable linking Chile to California, called "Curie" in honor of Marie Curie, will be "the main data conduit from or to Chile", said Sloss. Annual EPS Growth of past 5 years is 13.40%.

The Google Cloud Platform is expanding to include five additional datacentre regions and three subsea cables, as the search giant's pledge to invest $30bn in building out its cloud infrastructure gathers pace.

Google is also working with Facebook, subsea network manufacturer Aqua Comms, and industrial group Bulk Infrastructure on the Havfrue cable, which will connect the US east coast to Denmark and Ireland.

"Together, these investments further improve our network-the world's largest-which by some accounts delivers 25 percent of worldwide internet traffic", Treynor Sloss wrote.

PayPal is one company that will leverage Google's network and infrastructure. The cable, which Google has dubbed Curie, will be the first intercontinental cable built entirely by a non-telecom company, according to Google. When operational, Curie will serve Google users across Latin America.

Google is also working with Facebook, Aqua Comms and Bulk Infrastructure to build a direct submarine cable system connecting the U.S.to Denmark and Ireland. Havfrue, a consortium cable with Facebook, Aqua Comms and Bulk Infrastructure, will run the United States to Denmark and Ireland, coming online in late 2019.

Google said customers in Australia will experience improved capacity and latency from Australia to major hubs in Asia, along with increased capacity in Hong Kong and overall resilience in the Pacific.

These ventures increase Google's investments in subsea cables to 11 which they directly own, in addition to numerous others which they lease. The new regions and infrastructure will mean faster and reliable connectivity for Google Cloud customers, the firm said.
