Israeli forces kill suspect in rabbi's murder in West Bank raid

Israeli security forces carry out raids in the West Bank city of Jenin in pursuit of the Palestinian killers of Israeli rabbi Raziel Shevach

Members of the Tamimi family have frequently engaged in confrontations with Israeli soldiers in their West Bank village of Nebi Salah, and the family has emerged as a symbol of the Palestinian resistance against Israel. The judge said she could not be released from custody because of the severity of her crimes.

Mr Heeran noted that she was arrested from her home in the middle of the night, interrogated without a relative or lawyer present, and is now held outside the occupied territories in what he said contravenes global humanitarian law.

"The court said that because she is so risky there is no possibility of bail", she said.

On Monday, a major from the IDF Prosecution had countered to the Judea Military Court that Tamimi has "a pattern of lawbreaking" which required that she remain in detention until the end of her trial for shoving soldiers and rock-throwing.

The young girl has achieved worldwide notoriety and has become the focus of a heated propaganda war between Israel and Palestinians protesting the occupation of the West Bank.

Israeli court orders continued detention of Palestinian teen activist and her mother
Palestinian teen slapping Israeli soldiers remanded until end of trial

Clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli forces are continuing after US President Donald Trump last month recognized Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.

The Israeli troops shot one Palestinian gunman dead and detained another. The mother was also charged with inciting to carry out terror attacks in her Facebook posts.

Human rights advocates, however, argue that Tamimi was only defending her cousin, who had his head shattered when an Israeli soldier shot him, and could not have posed a serious threat to an armed soldier.

Following the arrests, Israeli Minister of Education Naftali Bennet, who leads the right-wing religious party Jewish Home, said: "The women seen assaulting Israeli soldiers in the video should finish their lives in jail".

Rights group Amnesty International has called on Israel to release her immediately, while the U.N. Office for the High Commissioner for Human Rights has criticized Israeli authorities' actions in the case.
