A US marshal was killed and at least two other officials were wounded Thursday morning in Harrisburg, Penn. when gunfire erupted during the service of a warrant, the mayor said.

The victim took a picture of the car's license plate and police tracked the car's owner to the location of the call, 1837 Mulberry St., but police could not track the owner down, the court records say. He is survived by his wife and two children, according to the press release.

"Harrisburg mourns the loss at the beginning of today of a U.S. Marshal who died ensuring our residents".

. A man in the home began shooting at task force members, hitting Dep. Hill and York City Police Officer Kyle Pitts.

The suspect has not been identified, but PennLive.com confirmed he was critically injured. That officer then shot and killed the gunman.

A USA marshal was killed, while a Harrisburg police officer and York City police officer were both wounded, per KOMO News.

The Harrisburg mayor said the US deputy marshal and other officers were serving a warrant early in the morning, and he and three other officers were shot, including a Harrisburg police officer.

Chardo says the officers were part of a US Marshals Service task force and multiple agencies were involved. "There is no current danger to the public".

An official says multiple law enforcement officers have been injured while serving an arrest warrant in Harrisburg and shots were fired. Authorities said Pitts, a 10-year police veteran, required surgery but they did not further describe his injuries. "I believe six of them have already signed up for it, to be part of the funeral service, and our entire warrants division will be going to the services that day", Weaknecht said.
