Macron: UK Must Pay into EU Budget After Brexit to Access Markets

LBC GETTYNigel Farage urged Britain to reject the French President's deal

French president Emmanuel Macron has told Britain that its financial services sector can not enjoy full access to Europe unless it accepts the jurisdiction of European courts and other single market rules.

The announcement is expected to be made by Theresa May at a summit with French President Emmanuel Macron on 18 January where Macron will sign a treaty strengthening the Le Touquet accord.

The tough message risked putting a sour note at the end of a meeting created to show the strength of Anglo-French relations, despite the UK's exit from the EU.

The group, which includes l'Auberge des Migrants, Help Refugees, Safe Passage and Utopia56, wrote to the leaders on the same day Ms May welcomed the French President to the UK-France Summit at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst. They can have no differentiated access to financial services.

Earlier the two leaders met the Coldstream Guards during a downpour at Sandhurst and watched a flypast by an RAF Typhoon and French air force Dassault Rafale.

French President #emmanuel macron is expected to announce the decision on Thursday as part of his visit to the UK.

Top of the agenda was a new deal to manage the migrant crisis at Calais, the northern French port that acts as a gateway to Britain.

"While I'm sure the offer is well meant, I will pass over the unfortunate truth that it depicts an invading French army killing England's King with the deaths of many in the English army, before taking over the government of our kingdom".

The funds will be used to build along the road in the Calais area on a 1 km long fence to protect the trucks that are going to the port from the penetration of illegal migrants.

The juxtaposition shows how little leverage May has - and how much she needs Macron to soften his line on Brexit.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom will offer three Chinook helicopters to support France in the Sahel region in North Africa, alongside £50 million in additional humanitarian aid across Mali, Niger, Chad, North Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Mauritania.

The Guardian speculates that Macron means to make a "hard political point" about Brexit by mentioning the Bayeux Tapestry, with its metaphorical significance as a story of power politics.

The 15-year-old Treaty of Le Touquet between France and Britain on migration controls has resulted in massive bottlenecks of migrants stranded on the French side of the border.

In turn, France is offering more troops to reinforce a British contingent deployed in Estonia under NATO's mission to deter Russian aggression.

A city councillor is leading calls for the 11th century Bayeux Tapestry to be displayed in Canterbury.

As Europe's "foremost military powers", Mrs May said it was "incumbent" on Britain and France to "demonstrate leadership" in upholding worldwide laws.

"Our shared history is reflected in the loan of the Bayeux Tapestry to the U.K.in 2022, the first time it will be on British soil in more than 900 years", May said on the loan agreement.
