Meryl Streep joins 'Big Little Lies 2' cast

Maybe biggest of it. HBO has announced signing of Meryl Streep for second season of series.

Streep is going to play Mary Louise Wright the mother of the late Perry Wright, yeah showrunners confirmed he's dead but will be featured in flashbacks.

Meryl Streep just joined "Big Little Lies" for the upcoming second season, and you'll never guess who she's going to be playing. Streep is of course coming off a fresh Oscar nomination for The Post-her 21st nomination from the Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences-and she'll likely be making room on the shelf for another Emmy nod too in Big Little Lies.

"Big Little Lies" cleaned up at the Emmys past year, winning eight of its 16 nominations, including Best Limited Series and acting awards for Kidman, Skarsgard and Laura Dern.

Described as "a woman who is concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren following her son Perry's death", Mary arrives "searching for answers" from her daughter-in-law. Perry died in the season 1 finale when Bonnie Carlson (Zoe Kravitz) fatally pushed him down a flight of stairs to stop him from physically abusing his wife, Celeste Wright (Nicole Kidman). And sources say director David E. Kelley has already penned all seven scripts partially based on a story by Moriarty.

"Big Little Lies", which debuted on HBO in February 2017, won eight Emmys past year and recently added four Golden Globes to its impressive awards haul.

As far Skarsgard, who won an Emmy and Golden Globe for his portrayal of an abusive husband, TV Line reported earlier this month the actor will return for season two in some capacity.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Season 2 is expected to premiere sometime in 2019.
