John said he will perform 300 dates ("I have to say, Madison Square Garden is my favorite place to play in the whole world - it's just magic, that place.") and that it will be the "best production I've ever done".

Asked if it was a difficult decision, Sir Elton said: "It wasn't a hard struggle because I love my kids so much and they really have taken over my life and are the most important thing. I'm in great health", he said.

However before throwing in towel, Sir Elton will do one last world tour and it is set to be a whopper, with over 300 shows!

"It's the last time I will be touring and traveling the world because my priorities have changed", John said. "This is in 1970 at the Troubadour that it all started", Elton says of the famous Los Angeles night club. And he is surely planning to go out with a bang. "Last year, Elton's YouTube-supported project "The Cut" gave undiscovered talent the chance to create new music videos for his iconic hits, and now his final farewell tour announcement takes experimentation to the next level - live streaming in VR", said Vivien Lewit, Global Head of Artist Services at YouTube. Further info and ticketing details to be announced in the coming months. The singer say farewell to life on the road after a three-year, worldwide tour starting this fall. Wednesday afternoon Elton John's team launched an updated website with additional tour information.

The 70-year-old hitmaker - who has been touring for nearly 50 years - announced his retirement on Wednesday evening ahead of a celebratory concert next week at Madison Square Garden in NY.

His six-year Las Vegas residency is due to come to an end in May.
