Boogie Cousins out for season with torn Achilles tendon

Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry was in a somber mood after the game. It feels unlikely they would bring him back now that he's considerably more expensive. Everything he's done and what he's tried to do for us and the improvements he's made as a player, on and off the court, has just been great. "All of our guys feel bad about it".

Cousins is expected to have season-ending surgery as soon as possible. While Cousins might not be the NBA's most refined superstar, he is absolutely one of its most prodigious producers. After the miss, he hustled to grab the rebound, but fell to the floor, unable to get up. He came to New Orleans during last season's trade deadline and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Cousins already had a triple-double (15 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists) before the injury, but he could be facing a lengthy absence.

That was evident during the Pelicans' 115-113 win over the Rockets on Friday night.

Anthony Davis rejects James Harden's move to the rim, and Darius Miller drains the 3-pointer on the other end to extend the Pelicans' lead over the Rockets. He is obviously one of New Orleans' most irreplaceable players, and a long-term injury to him would be thoroughly devastating to their playoff hopes in the Western Conference. Per, the Pelicans possess a minus-19.7 net rating when both their stars are on the bench.

Gentry was clearly upset after the game. New Orleans was in the final 10 seconds of polishing off a national television win over the Rockets, in front of a raucous home crowd, ready to take the plunge into relevancy.

CLIPPERS 109, GRIZZLIES 100 • In Memphis, Tenn., Lou Williams had 40 points and matched his season-high with 10 assists in Los Angeles' victory over Memphis. Using his 30-pound weight advantage, Cousins often overpowered Houston center, including a crucial putback while drawing a foul with 15 seconds remaining.

After just being announced as an starter for the 2018 National Basketball Association ll-Star game, bad news strikes where it always hurts most: the injury front.'s pick would be Thunder forward Paul George, who emerged as the top snub when the full rosters were announced earlier this week.

Only four players have reached those numbers in the last 50 years. Stay tuned for the latest DeMarcus Cousins injury update.

The New Orlean Pelicans have been pretty spectacular this year.
