Grammys 2018: Bruno Mars wins 6 out of 6, dominates awards list

There were other stand-out performances Sunday night, including a touching tribute to those who lost their lives a year ago at concerts around the world.

A partial list of winners in the top categories at the Grammy Awards, announced Sunday by The Recording Academy. The Hawaiian-born artist also won for best R&B performance for That's What I Like and best R&B album for 24K Magic.

Kesha, who earned her first pair of Grammy nominations for an album reflecting her battle with former producer and mentor Dr. Luke, will honor victims during her performance.

But that wasn't all.

So was Childish Gambino, who was also nominated in those three categories but won only for Best Traditional R&B Performance.

He'd already won for rap/sung collaboration (with Rihanna), rap performance ("Humble"), rap song ("Humble") and music video (ditto).

This story will be updated.

Time's Up didn't come up until 2½ hours into the show but Janelle Monáe made the most of it, declaring, "To those who would dare try and silence us, we offer you two words: Time's up".

As it has in recent years, the Grammys downplayed the awards for performances by the industry's biggest stars.

Lamar wore a white rose in a sign of solidarity with the anti-sexual harassment movement to accept the first televised award of the night which he said "really belongs to her" in reference to Rihanna.

The Grammys opened the show with a mix of rap, rock and comedy featuring Kendrick Lamar, U2 and Dave Chappelle.

Kendrick Lamar was the night's second biggest victor, picking up five Grammys, starting with his first of the night for Best Music Video for "Humble", which also won Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.

But Jay-Z started the night in the lead with eight nominations as he basked in acclaim for "4:44", an introspective album in which he admits infidelity to his wife Beyonce and explores institutional racism. He performed a powerful medley of his songs, backed by a giant American flag and dancers in hoodies, who collapsed to the sound of gunshots as he rapped. "So when you look at the work that's been done, and Jay would be one example, and there's that level of excellence, we have a very sophisticated voting membership that is able to recognize that".

- Best R&B song: 'That's What I Like, ' Bruno Mars.

Dae Bennett won his eighth Grammy at Sunday's ceremony, for producing "Tony Bennett Celebrates 90", the companion album to his father's NBC special celebrating Bennett's birthday.

Before the performance, Maren Morris, Eric Church and Brothers Osborne performed an emotional rendition of Eric Clapton's "Tears In Heaven" - written after his son died - in honor of the 58 people who died at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas past year.

The National won best alternative album for Sleep Well Beast.

The year when a hip-hop artist finally won for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, two categories that had never before gone to a hip-hop act.

- Best urban contemporary album: 'Starboy, ' The Weeknd.
