House Republicans Vote to Release Secret Memo on Russia Probe

Donald Trump FBI Russia investigation

Democrats argue that the memo, written without their input, is politically motivated to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Trump and Russian Federation - and, specifically, to undercut Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has refused to fire Mueller.

The Post revealed that Trump-who was upset about Sessions recusing himself from the Russian Federation investigation-also has taken issue with Rosenstein's supervision of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Trump's campaign ties to Russian Federation.

Trump warned Sessions and others they need to excel at their jobs or go down as the worst in history, the two people said.

Trump "is inclined to have that released just because it will shed light", a senior administration official told the Post. Kelly has taken to ending such conversations with a disclaimer that the White House isn't expecting officials to do anything illegal or unethical.

On Monday morning, White House spokesman Raj Shah said that the Oval Office would conduct a national security review of the document to determine if it could be released to the broader public, explicitly dismissing the DOJ's role in vetting the document. But the Justice Department has said it would be "extraordinarily reckless" to surface a document based on classified information without the intelligence community's sign-off.

Donald Trump Jr. made yet another push for the release of the notorious classified House intelligence memo by placing a $100 bet on its fate.

On Monday, FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who has been blasted by Trump and other Republicans, stepped down and will be on leave until he retires sometime in the spring, a person familiar with the matter said.

Trump's anger was exacerbated by reports last week that the president had wanted to fire Mueller last June.

"I want to play face-up poker", Gowdy said. Trump was surprised by Mueller's appointment, saying that he had previously had a business dispute with the special counsel, and reacted angrily until McGahn calmed him down.

The document allegedly contains proof that some of the top officials in the Obama-era national security establishment abused their authority to obtain surveillance warrants on members of President Trump's campaign.

Despite being a proponent of releasing House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes' (R-CA) memo, one of his GOP colleagues appeared to criticize fellow Republicans and right-wing media for touting its existence. Yes, the House Intelligence Committee could vote to declassify it, but the president has five days whether to block it or not.

As Trump Jr. aims to have the memo released, his efforts have been backed by others who wish to discredit the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Special Counsel Robert Mueller amid the House Intelligence Committee's Russian Federation probe.

Republican lawmakers have been reluctant to describe the allegations contained in the secret document.

Trump has been critical of McCabe because his wife Jill McCabe received almost $500,000 in campaign contributions in 2015 from a political-action committee tied to Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat with long ties to Bill and Hillary Clinton.

"I can't prove that they were the final decision makers", Gowdy, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Affairs, told "Fox News Sunday".
