At least 3 killed as helicopter crashes into house in Newport Beach

Helicopter crashes into Southern California home

The crash initially happened around 1:50 p.m. local time in Newport Beach, NBC Los Angeles reported.

Officials said the aircraft struck the yard and wall of the home. The Robinson R44 light helicopter normally seats four people.

An eyewitness tells KCAL-TV that he saw the pilot lying injured but alive on the grass and there were three other people inside the wreckage.

The Newport Beach Police Department said four passengers were onboard the aircraft when it crashed into a residence. "There were people over there helping open up the helicopter".

"We tried to pry them out but we didn't want to touch them".
